About the post-exam debate

The way I was acting during the discussion can be described as avoidance. The reason I reacted in that way was not because I thought there was no chance to win but the opposite. As professor mentioned that we had an average of C- in the class, therefore I thought there would be a lot of people who will strive for an opportunity to boost up their grade. Since I already got an A-, I didn’t really care about discussion (it sounds selfish, sorry) and I knew whatever result came out it would be beneficial to me. I think leader is a really important part in group communication; he made our discussion more organized, and as far as I’m concerned, without leader the discussion would end undesirably since there were just too many thought and conflicts going on. I was really glad the leader mentioned about we had to get something with in limited time which it set a goal to the class.

If there is anything that could make the discussion better, I think it would be divide people into small groups and choose a representative from each group. This way I think we could reduced the time spending on larger scale of entire class debate.

Hi Chen,
I was just like you. Given the limited time, I thought that I should not make the chaos bigger by saying my opinion, especially since the majority of people had the same goal as I.
However, I think that dividing people into groups was not such a good idea, since we had limited time, and also the chairman was handling our group very well. Dividing people into groups required more time to come to a decision because we needed to make two agreements: first in the small groups, then with the whole group.
Good luck to your history exam and see you in the class.

you took the same role as me.
I dont think that was a selfish action.
it's more complicated if every one of our classmates had something to say and end up with unanimas agreement within a limited time.

Well, sharing our opinion is the biggest part of our activity. I know everybody wants to speak out their opinion, but for me, I think it is a good idea to just hear all their opinion before make any suggestion to it. So, we shouldn't say other people's opinion is a stupid idea when something doesn't sounds good. And the most important that we learn from this activity is to respect others. No respect to others equal no rules.

Hi. You said that you did not care because you received a grade of an A- on the test, and which ever solution we picked you would be fine with, but are you really satisfied with anything but an A? What if we did not come to a conclusion. Everyone would not fully agree on something. Would you not even care then?
